Weekly analysis assignment 3-1

Weekly analysis 3-1
Pit Bulls, what do you think about them and the laws that are in effect for them?
To be fair I will start of by saying I have a Pit Bull, Husky mix, his name is Eli and my boyfriend adopted him 4 years ago. When I first meet him everything I have ever heard about Pit Bulls came right to mind, they are dangerous, mean, can turn on you in a minute, and once the jaw closes you will have a hard time getting it to let go. Eli is the biggest baby in the world and he thinks he is a 65 pound lap dog, he is a lover of everyone, and we both took to each right away. He is great with our other dogs; a 13 year old Rottweiler, 3 year old Boxer, and a 1 year Mini-Pin who follows him around everywhere.

Ohio has passed a law banning Pit Bulls or dogs that resemble a Pit Bull. There are 24 counties in Ohio that have banned Pit Bulls all together, 3 counties have proposed a ban that has not passed yet, and another 33 counties have no ban but have additional restrictions beyond the State Law (http://www.pittiesplace.com/BSLinOhio.htm).

I have a friend that had 2 Pit Bulls and had to jump through hoops for the county she lived in to have them, additional home owners insurance, signs posted in the yard and the house, and a mussel on the dogs when she takes them for a walk.

I lived in Akron, OH before I moved to WV, and for my boyfriend to bring Eli up, we had to do things I felt were crazy since he lived in WV not OH and was just visiting. I had to get more home owners insurance and Eli had to be in a fenced in yard and on a leash at all times when outside the house.

According to pittiesplace.com, they are a good breed but a lot work, they are very responsive to training and eager to learn. They can be a handful so you want to have experience being a dog owner before getting a Pit Bull. Pit Bulls are very loving and affectionate dogs that love to cuddle and have human contact.
This is Eli and Pete

  1. Wow I had no idea that Ohio was so strict about dog ownership. We also have a pitbull in our family. His name in Champ. I hate to hear that it has gotten this bad. I live in NC and those types of laws haven't came to terms as of yet. I truly believe it is all in how the dog is raised. All dogs can be mean if they are mistreated. Pits get a bad rap. I have read that pit bull were the dogs of royalty back in the day.

  2. Thanks, I think they get a bad rap as well. It's a little bit better in WV, but we had a hard to finding home owners insurance with our dogs. Have you watched Pit Bulls and Parolees or Pit Boss, both shows do a great job with Pit Bulls.
