Assignment 1-3 blog

My article was Holodeck Masquing: Early Modern Genre Meets Star Trek. Masquing is a dramatic entertainment for the 16th & 17 centuries. It was written fir and preformed by nobility.  It was outlawed and stopped.
Star Trek brought it back with their holodeck. The holodeck was a computer simulation and the crew would be one of the characters in the scenarios. Their actions and reactions decided how the scenarios would turn out.
Most of the time the holodeck was used as a teaching tool, but being one of the many viewers I know that the crew would also use the holodeck took relax and take leave in a simulation that they had the computer make for them.
I need a computer that can make me things like that.
Please find the link to my article on the bulletin board.

  1. This reminds me of Total Recall. In that movie that used the same concept. Instead of going on vacation you simply putt on goggles, take some meds, and drift away to paradise.
    Interesting article.
    Good job and good luck!!!

  2. Great analysis of your article Mari! I love Star Trek and the ideas of simulations. To be able to do things without actually "doing" them but feeling the same affects is very exciting. And to do the dangerous things, would be fun and not so dangerous. Great job!

  3. I was never really a Star Trek fan, but did see a few episodes as growing up (mom made me do it). LOL. I think it would be very interesting to see something that actually gave a person the effect of something by just feeling them and not actually doing them. That is pretty cool. Great job on your analysis!
